NZMSA Statement on Christchurch Terror Attack 15/3/19

The New Zealand Medical Students’ Association is deeply shocked by the terrorist attack in Christchurch on Friday 15 March. Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this horrific event, particularly those in our medical student community of Islamic faith.

The University of Otago believes that all of the medical students based at Christchurch Hospital are safe and accounted for. We will be working closely with the University of Otago and the Christchurch Medical Students’ Association to ensure that all medical students affected by the incident have access to support that they need.

We wish to acknowledge the senseless hurt, loss, and grief that all of us will be feeling from this atrocity. For students looking for someone to talk to, free call or text 1737 for support from a trained counsellor 24/7. The Associate Dean Student Affairs in Christchurch, is available to be contacted by students needing support from the university. Further details of available support will be communicated locally.

For any queries, please contact Christchurch-based NZMSA President Fraser Jeffery at
